Best Gift:)

Hey Everyone!  I hope you had a wonderful weekend and here we are again, the end of the weekend:(  It always goes by too fast!  I sure had a fabulous weekend because my friend and I went shopping out of town.  Boy, do we do some damage when we go:-o I ended up with waayy more than I needed and planned on spending, but I did find some great finds:)

I have to tell you, that I am one lucky girl!  For V-day the hubby planned on making me a full length mirror for our bedroom:) Since I was a busy bee shopping away yesterday, I'm just now posting about my mirror.

We decided that it would be lots cheaper if it was DIY mirror versus buying one in the store.  These mirrors can run anywhere from $100-$200.....EXPENSIVE!!!!  I believe the mirror that the hubby made was $50, so this was a really good deal:)

Here it is:)
Isn't it just wonderful?  I am in love with it and I think it fits perfectly with the look of our bedroom.  Just about anyone could make one of these lovely mirrors!  It's really not too hard.    These are the steps that the hubby took to make this:

 Things needed for this project:
-Mirror - 16" x 60"
-3 1 x4's  boards (they are 4" wide by 8' tall)
-Caulk
-Stain - in this case black

Step 1:  Cut the 2 boards to 65" long and take the 3rd board and cut it into two 21" long.  These will be for your sides of the mirror.

Step 2:  You will need to use a table saw and cut a notch along the sides of the boards.  This way the mirror will fit right into the trim.

Then once we cut the notch in the we cut the wood again, so that skinny piece would just fall right off.

What it looked like after cutting the notch.
Step 3:  Depending on the size of mirror, you will need to cut the tops and bottoms of the pre-cut boards at an angle.

Step 4: Nail the boards together.

Step 5: Stain the frame to your liking:) Make sure you stain the notch also.  The hubby forgot to and you can kinda see it on the bottom of the mirror, not too nocitible , but you can tell.
All put together, stained, and ready for the addition of the mirror:)
Step 6:  Grab the caulk and  mirror, put the caulk on the notch be careful not to put too much on it; otherwise it could get on your mirror!  Step back and enjoy your brand new, inexpensive mirror:):):)

I love my new mirror!!!
Doesn't it look lovely in our room?
I knew that I wanted the wood to be stained or painted a dark color.  I didn't know what it would look like if it was stained black, but I think it turned out better than what I expected:)  I was debating whether or not I should paint or stain our dressers and now I'm definitely staining them black!  It fits perfectly in our bedroom!!!!  I would highly suggest staining your wood, it gives it a great, fresh, new look:) Since I have off a couple days for Easter break, I'm taking some time to stain our dressers...if I don't do it then, I'm going to start it on the first day of Summer break!  Right now, I'm making a To-Do List for this summer and it's growing each day, at least I will keep myself busy:)

Until next time!
